Silver Cloth protects silver and silver-plated items from the elements that cause tarnish. It works by absorbing pollutants from the air before they can reach and react with your precious metals. This silver infused cotton cloth is a great way to care for silver and silver-plated jewelry and other fine metal objects. It cleans and polishes tarnished silver and makes it shine. It also helps to keep it looking its best when stored away.
Pacific Silvercloth(tm) is a genuine tarnish preventative and lasts far longer than similar materials that are simply described as ‘tarnish-resistant’. The only time Pacific Silvercloth(tm) will need replacing is when it gets too dirty and needs to be laundered.
Our Pacific Silvercloth is made of 100% cotton flannel dyed with no acids, salts or sulfur and is impregnated with materials that are effective in protecting silver and jewelry from tarnish. It is a brown fabric that will tarnish slightly over the years, changing to various hues of brown, as it continues to protect silver. It can be used to line drawers, sideboards and cabinets to protect items from tarnish or to make protective pouches for silver trays, flatware and hollowware. It is commonly used by manufacturers to line silverware chests, and by homeowners to create protective bags for their valuable metals.
A recent study by Bernd Nowack and his colleagues at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology has shown that fabrics coated with nanosilver leak fewer silver particles when washed than previously thought. In addition, they found that the coated fabrics had high filtration efficiency and desired pressure drop as well as desirable antibacterial properties against Gram-positive bacteria (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) without exhibiting significant cytotoxicity against HEK 293 cells and Artemia nauplii.
